hello world

"Kate, I have a question for you. Do you still consider yourself a blogger?" - Lee

Yes, Dad. I do. Sorry I haven't given you anything to read while you've been waiting at the airport recently. I've been a bit busy graduating.

Yep, the diploma is finally in my possession (even though I found a library book tucked into the depths of my backpack once I got home) and I'm officially an alum. Scary stuff.

Not only do I no longer have access to a dining hall when I don't have time to make my own dinner, but the list of "adult" things that I have to deal with now is constantly growing. Paying for rent and insurance, justifying why FICA is taking all of my money, and no more summer vacations are just a few of the things that make me feel, well...old.

I am convinced that I'm not a totally real person yet. I don't start working for two months, so I'm currently bumming at the beach, taking long bike rides and doing ocean-view yoga with my brother (the glamorous name for doing P90X yoga in the living room of our ocean-front house...). I also don't think adults go to the beach so eager for a tan that they get fried on the first day, so I obviously cannot be an adult yet. I think it's about time I trade in my sun-bleached baseball hat for one of those large-brimmed straw numbers - I see adults wearing those all the time.

As for other news, I'm in the process of finding a yoga studio for the summer, starting to clock some running miles again, and transitioning to vegetarianism. Cutting meat out of my diet is because my stomach feels good when I don't eat meat - I'm not going to start wearing hemp skirts anytime soon. Right now seafood is still a staple protein for me, so I don't think you can call me a real vegetarian, but for me the most important thing is that my stomach feels better, so I'm just going to go with it.

So for now I'm just going to ride out the wave of being a pseudo-kid. I've got the rest of my life to be a pulled-together adult, so I'm going to sleep until 10:30 and let my mom take me shopping for work clothes while I still can. Maybe she'll think about buying me a couch while we're at it...
